Young Volunteers Invited to Apply for Prudential Spirit of Community Awards
"The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honor young people in grades 5 through 12 who have demonstrated exemplary voluntary service to their communities. The program was created in 1995 and is sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Over the past twelve years, the program has honored more than 70,000 young volunteers at the local, state, and national levels.
Schools and officially designated organizations may select one middle level and one high school Local Honoree for every 1,000 students (or portion thereof). Local Honorees are judged at the state level, with 102 State Honorees from the 50 United States and the District of Columbia to be named in February 2007.
Each State Honoree will receive $1,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., (May 5-8, 2007) with a parent or guardian...
Officially designated local organizations are Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross Chapters, YMCAs, and member Volunteer Centers of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network.
Student applications are due back to schools or organizations by October 31, 2006."
