Tech Tonic Report
Two stories by eSchool News discuss a report released on September 30. One is about the report and the other a response to the report.
"The report, called "Tech Tonic" and released by the nonprofit Alliance for Childhood, claims there is little evidence of long-term benefits from using computers in schools."
"A new report from a group of educators, researchers, and children's health professionals challenges the common perception that today's students must use computers in the classroom to be successful in the 21st century. The group's report further argues that the high-tech lifestyle promoted by industry and government might actually do more harm than good for students."

"The response from the Consortium for School Networking to the Alliance for Childhood report:
Tech Tonic, the recently released report from the Alliance for Childhood, is at its core deeply flawed. The report, like its earlier version (Fool's Gold, September 2000) takes reasonable concerns about creating nurturing environments for children, but reaches unreasonable conclusions about actions to take.
